Sexual Orientation

Is it normal to be asexual? How can I change being asexual?

Discovering your sexuality is a normal part of growing up. As we develop, we learn more and more about ourselves and our bodies. We learn what we like and what we don’t, this includes relationships and sexuality, which are an important part of this development.

What does it mean to be asexual?

Asexuality is a term used to describe people who experience little to no sexual attraction. This does not mean that they do not want to have a loving relationship with another person, it just means that the sexual aspect of the relationship doesn’t appeal to them as it may to other sexualities. Nonetheless, asexuality is different for everyone, and each person is unique.

Asexuality and sex

By embracing your sexual orientation and self, you are allowing yourself to discover what it means to be asexual. Whilst being asexual is completely normal, you may want to explore how to increase your sexual activity and create a more fulfilling sexual life for yourself. A few ways to help explore this option would be to:

Explore your intimacy through self-care

Understand your bodies needs and wants

Understand what you like personally

Find and speak to others who are having similar experiences to yourself

To conclude, asexuality is often a misunderstood sexuality that involves a broad spectrum of sexual feelings. It can be difficult to navigate by yourself, but by allowing yourself to research and gain more knowledge about the sexuality, you will have more acceptance and understanding of yourself. Moreover, speaking to a therapist about your sexuality and emotions towards it is a helpful tool in learning more about yourself.
