Sexual Dysfunction
What is the condom collapse syndrome?
Research suggests that a large number of men have lost an erection while putting on a condom or during sexual intercourse while using a condom at least once. This condition can become persistent for certain people. Condom collapse syndrome is a term that has been used to describe this event. This can be caused by anxiety or instrusive thoughts that come in when the sexual act is paused to put the condom on, mainly revolving around concerns regarding whether the erection will remain present. This can then create a cycle of anxiety causing erectile dysfunction, causing more anxiety and so on. Here are some tips on how to deal with this:
1. Practice putting on a condom by yourself. This helps you to be more confident when it comes to putting it on while with a partner and avoids any fumbling.
2. Condoms come in various sizes, you may need to try different ones to see what works best.
3. Make putting on the condom a sexy part of the experience, maybe by asking your partner to put it on for you.
4. If the issue is persistent you can consult with a sex therapist.
