Sexual Orientation
Is asexuality linked with high suicide rates?
Discrimination against asexual people, also known as acephobia or aphobia, encompasses a range of negative attitudes, behaviours, and feelings toward asexuality or people who identify as part of the asexual spectrum. Nearly a third of ace respondents (29.7%) made plans to kill themselves, and about half of those who made plans attempted suicide (14.6%). These numbers are quite consistent to the ones registered in 2017 and 2018 (Weiset al., 2020).
