Orgasm
What can I do to help my boyfriend who can’t finish during sex?
Being the partner of someone with a sexual dysfunction can be a difficult thing to navigate. You may feel responsible for your partner’s orgasm. Only about 8% of men self-report that the reason for their delayed ejaculation is due to their partner. The most prevalent reason given is anxiety/distress at 41% (Rowland et al., 2023). Often this is something that your partner has to work on themselves, as there is only so much a partner can do.
What you can do is continue to encourage your partner to work on the issue. Maybe incorporate more of his fantasies into your partnered sex or utilise sex toys. Sometimes it is easier to reach orgasm alone than with partnered sex because there is less pressure to perform. Sometimes it is because the fantasies or techniques used during masturbation are not possible during partnered sex. For example, many people use pornography to masturbate, which is very normal to do, but sometimes it becomes a form of distraction from troubling thoughts that are less easy to ignore during partnered sex.
