What causes infertility?
Infertility in women is generally caused by problems with the process of ovulation (the monthly release of the egg from the ovaries). There could be some issues that can prevent an egg from releasing at all. Whereas, some issues can prevent the egg from releasing in some of the cycles but not all of them.
It can be caused by many different problems such as:
Polysystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) - characterised by a production of abnormal amount of male sex hormones, which are normally present in very small amounts among women
Thyroid issues - both overactive thyroid gland and underactive thyroid gland can hinder in the way of ovulation
Premature ovarian failure - this is where ovaries stop working before the age of 40
Whereas, infertility in men can be caused by a number of reasons such as sperm disorders - where the male does not have enough sperm, or sperm being immature, shaped abnormally or unable to move towards the egg, Infections, Hormone problems, Immune problems and lifestyle factors.
