Menstruation
Should I dismiss my mood/emotions when I'm on my period?
Mood swings, anxiousness, and irritability are common symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). These can be exacerbated by physical symptoms such as sleeping troubles, stomach problems, pains such as headaches and cramps, or greasy skin and hair. However, just because periods and PMS can sometimes cause hormone fluctuations that result in mood changes, this doesn't mean that the emotions that you're feeling during this time aren't valid. You are still feeling the emotions, even if they may be caused by hormones, and dismissing them won't stop you from feeling them. If you notice that your mood affects your behaviour or your relationships a lot during your period or during PMS, then it can be recommended to seek out professional help. Some methods to help regulate your mood include exercise, avoiding substances like caffeine or alcohol, and getting a good amount of sleep.
